Are your products safe for children and pets?
We do our best to communicate the components of our products on every product description page. Like most household products, the materials and pieces we use are not suitable for consumption. Some of our products may contain latex, which can cause allergic reactions and should be handled with caution by those with known sensitivities. Please keep fragile or delicate products away from children and pets.
Do you have replacement parts available?
All our artificial Christmas trees come with an assortment of replacement parts, including light bulbs for pre-lit trees. You can buy Christmas tree replacement parts if your product warranty has expired. (Get warranty information.) Our replacement bulb guide can help you identify the correct bulbs for your tree.

What should I do if I can’t find my assembly instructions?
Assembling Your Tree instructions covers most trees. If the instructions for your product are not there, or if you have any further lighting questions, we have a video showing you How To Troubleshoot A Pre-Lit Christmas Tree.

Does Balsam Hill make sustainable Christmas trees?
Yes! Since our founding in 2006, all Balsam Hill trees have been inspired by nature and designed for reuse over the years, for all your Christmas celebrations. Reusability is a key driver in the circular economy and sustainability.
Advancing our trademark True Needle® technology, we’re developing materials from recycled content and plant-based plastic with Balsam Hill’s signature quality and realism. Since 2025, our True Needles have been made with 30% recycled or 95% plant-based polyethylene, so you can celebrate with the planet in mind.
Our recycled plastic True Needles are made with 30% post-consumer, GRS-certified recycled polyethylene (PE) sourced from tear-away water bottle caps. We plan to reach 50% and beyond through further research and development. Our plant-based plastic True Needles are made with sugarcane-based polyethylene (PE) tested to meet C-14 standards for 95% bio-based carbon content.
In the future, we are focused on a move toward recycled steel and increasing the use of renewable solar power in our factories.

Does Balsam Hill offer recycling for Christmas trees or Christmas lights?
According to the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA), as of 2025, recycling programs for artificial trees don’t currently exist—so we’re working with local partners to create them in our key sales markets. In 2025, we’re taking our first steps toward tree collection and tree recycling with a pilot in Dublin (Ireland). If successful, what we learn will inform our expansion plan for recycling in other regions and refurbishment options for trees.
We’re working to expand awareness and access to recycling programs for holiday light strings, when you buy or recycle your tree. At our Balsam Outlet in California, we collect unwanted Christmas light strings from shoppers to support future recycling efforts.
We’re also transitioning to recycle-ready packaging. We started by eliminating bubble wrap and moving to paper tape in most of our tree packaging, and now we’re working to shift away from expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polybags for our decor.

What are the differences between reNEW and "original" Balsam Hill trees?
In 2024, we introduced the reNEW collection of trees made with GRS-certified, post-consumer recycled or plant-based polyethylene to reduce our reliance on virgin, fossil-based resources. Made with more sustainable materials, these trees maintain Balsam Hill’s signature quality and realism. If you receive a box labeled reNEW, you've received a product made with 30% recycled or 95% plant-based plastic.
In 2025, we rolled out our reNEW commitment across all our True Needle trees, transitioning to 30% post-consumer, GRS-certified recycled or 95% plant-based polyethylene (PE).
Almost all (~85%) of Balsam Hill trees are now part of our reNEW commitment to invest in research, development, production, and partnerships that move us toward new and more sustainable materials each year.
Trees manufactured prior to 2025 and Balsam Hill’s traditional (non-True Needle) trees may not contain updated recycled or bio-based content.
