Nothing brings more holiday cheer to your place of business than a beautifully decorated commercial Christmas tree. Balsam Hill offers a wide range of artificial Christmas trees to fit any space and style – from the reception area of a local office to an expansive hotel lobby. In this guide, we share expert tips on how to choose the perfect tree for your business and create joy for your guests, customers, and employees this holiday season.
Column
Height and profile play a crucial role in determining the correct fit for the space. Consider ceiling height as well as foot traffic when deciding which commercial Christmas trees to install.

We recommend leaving at least 6 inches between the ceiling and the top of the tree, including tree toppers or decorative accents that add to the tree’s height. For example, if the space has 14-foot ceilings and you plan to use a 12-inch tree topper, you should purchase a 12-foot Christmas tree.
| Tree Height | Decorating Tip |
|---|---|
| Under 6 feet | Miniature trees for tabletops, bedrooms, kid’s rooms, and small spaces |
| 6–6.5 feet | Designed for areas with low ceilings |
| 7–7.5 feet | The best size for standard 8- to 9-foot ceilings |
| 8–8.5 feet | Ideal for rooms with high ceilings |
| 10–14 feet | Perfect for public spaces and vaulted ceilings |
| 15 feet and above | Tall Christmas trees for grand displays |

The shape of the tree determines how much display space is required. Full and wide trees are great for spacious areas such as lobbies and ballrooms, while slim and sparse trees are ideal for corners and more compact spaces. Measure your set-up location and compare it to the tree dimensions provided on our website. Our measurements are based on the widest point of the tree when fully fluffed.

Our expertly trained Business Sales Team work closely with clients to ensure a hands-on shopping experience. Below are some of our best-sellers that come highly recommended by customers and partners.
Our namesake tree and a long-time customer favorite, the BH Balsam Fir is designed after real balsam firs grown in Maine. The tree features a gorgeous teardrop shape and semi-flat needles, just like its natural counterpart. Choose the Candlelight LED option for that classic look or the Color + Clear if you’d like your guests to enjoy a more colorful light display.
The BH Fraser Fir is molded from 40 different tip variations, making it our most realistic tree to date. It features dark green needles with silver undersides, along with an organically shaped treetop to accurately mimic the color and natural profile of farm-grown Fraser firs
Inspired by the historic Silverado Trail, our Silverado Slim features a slender profile with natural-green foliage. This tree is ideal for smaller spaces without sacrificing the height and comes in several LED light options.
Sparse by design, our Alpine Balsam Fir features open spaces between branches for showcasing treasured ornaments. The foliage is painted with light-green tips to complement its organic shape and visible faux trunk. Hand-shaped by experts, the tree also features Pre-Fluffed® memory wire branches that fan into place upon unboxing for reduced set-up time.
Our Classic Blue Spruce is crafted with 100% Classic Needle foliage and features a full profile for that classic Christmas tree look. The needles are painted in blue-green and silvery hues, complemented by light brown tinted stems. Available in several height and lighting options.
Here are some other considerations when planning to decorate your business space for the holidays.
Column
Christmas decorating takes thoughtful planning, especially when done on a larger scale. Businesses usually purchase their trees and decorations earlier in the year. By planning ahead, your team can avoid stress or overwhelm during one of the busiest times of the year.
Column
Consider the style and color of the space you’ll be decorating. Plan to purchase ornaments and decorations that complement the color palette and style of the room or building so that everything looks cohesive. Some of our popular themes include Nordic Frost, Burnished Metals, and Brilliant Bordeaux.
Column
If you’re decorating al fresco areas, make sure to use greenery and other decorations specifically made for outdoor use. These are made with a UV-resistant finish to protect them from sun and weather damage.

Larger Christmas trees might require special equipment to assemble and decorate. Plan for ladders or lifts and additional manpower, if needed. At the end of the season, protect your investment by storing your Balsam Hill trees, ornaments, and greenery in heavy-duty storage bags. Our storage solutions are specially designed to keep your Christmas decorations safe from dust, pests, and damage while stowed away.
Start by measuring your space for height and width, leaving at least 12 inches of clearance from the ceiling. Next, decide on the tree's shape and fullness, considering factors like branch tips (more is better for a fuller look) and the realism of the needles (polyethylene (PE) is more realistic than polyvinyl chloride (PVC)). Finally, choose between pre-lit or unlit and select a color that matches your decor, keeping in mind that PE needles offer more realistic detail, while PVC is often used for fullness.
For standard commercial ceilings (8 to 10 feet), a 7- to 8-foot tree is ideal. Spaces with 12- to 14-foot ceilings work well with 9- to 10-foot trees, while grand lobbies with 18-foot ceilings or higher often use 12- to 15-foot trees for visual impact. Always allow at least 12 inches of clearance for toppers.
Full-shaped trees with sturdy PE-PVC needle construction are best suited for high-traffic spaces. Commercial-grade trees from brands like Balsam Hill offer strong branch support, fire-resistant materials, and durable bases that withstand frequent contact. Slim silhouettes also work well where floor space is limited.
Pre-lit trees with LED bulbs are the most energy-efficient option, using up to 80% less energy than incandescent lights. Offices that prefer flexible lighting schemes may opt for unlit trees and pair them with LED string or smart lights. Timers and dimmable features can further reduce power use.
Disassemble or collapse the tree carefully, then store it in a climate-controlled area using durable rolling or zippered storage bags. Clean branches with a soft brush or cloth and inspect wiring on pre-lit trees before storage. Proper handling prevents damage and extends the life of the display for multiple seasons.
