Inspired by farm-grown Fraser fir Christmas trees in North Carolina, the BH Fraser Fir is designed with 40 different tip variations – the most of any of Balsam Hill’s trees. Our version of the beloved Fraser fir features an organic silhouette composed of dark green needles with silvery undersides. Keep reading to learn more about this iconic Christmas tree.
Both are commonly used as Christmas trees, but there are a few key differences between Balsam fir and Fraser fir that make them unique.
Fraser firs are native to the Southern United States, while Balsam firs are found throughout North America, making them more accessible for household or commercial uses.
Balsam fir trees can grow upwards of 70 feet, while Fraser fir trees reach an average of 30 to 50 feet.
Fraser firs have 1-inch needles that grow in every direction. Balsam firs, on the other hand, have semi-flat needles that are up to 1.5 inches in length. They grow in a spiral around the branch, but they’re less dense than a Fraser fir.
Balsam fir needles appear dark green with silver tones, while Fraser fir needles are bluish green with silver undersides.
Fraser fir trees have a conical profile and sturdy branches for holding heavy Christmas ornaments. Balsam firs have a teardrop silhouette with upward-sloping branches that are more flexible.
Aside from being staple holiday decorations, both tree species have medicinal purposes due to their antiseptic properties. Some furniture manufacturers also use Balsam fir to make tables, chairs, and more.
We designed our well-loved Fraser fir artificial Christmas trees, wreaths, and garlands to make their overall look and feel truer to nature. Here are some of our customer's top choices:
